Intermediate Web Information Architecture (IA) Practitioner

Job Description

Systemscope Inc., a premier strategic consulting firm serving the federal public sector in the National Capital Region, is looking for a proven Intermediate Web IA Practitioner. We are looking for an experienced practitioner who can handle a range of public sector Internet and intranet IA challenges – sometimes simultaneously – from research to design to documentation.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5 years of consulting or work experience in organizing Web or other resources to support effective discovery, navigation and search
  • 5 years of consulting or work experience in the Canadian federal government context
  • Minimum BA/BS degree (advanced degree in Library Science, Human Factors or related field preferred)
  • Bilingualism in the official languages of Canada

Proven experience in:

  • Planning and conducting consultations with government stakeholders/clients
  • Development and documentation of IA design concepts and solutions, including:
    • Site structures
    • Terminology/labeling systems (e.g. controlled vocabularies for the Web)
    • Navigation systems
    • Indexes, site maps and other navigational constructs
  • Integrating user-centered design practices and principles into IA design
  • Communicating IA concepts, principles and related guidance to others
  • Development and delivery of presentations
  • Development of typical business documentation, such as agendas, project plans, reports, etc.

Skills/abilities:

  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills – both verbal and written in English
  • Strategic and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work effectively with clients, project leaders and project team members
  • Ability to participate in multiple projects simultaneously and manage time effectively in a deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to manage both end-client and business requirements, while maintaining a consistent focus on client satisfaction

Areas of knowledge (please apply a ranking: none, some knowledge, good knowledge, excellent knowledge):

  • Information architecture and Web interface design processes and methods
  • The Government of Canada’s Web-related standards and policies
  • The Government of Canada’s IM-related standards and policies
  • Web standards
  • Web content management systems
  • Taxonomies/classification
  • Metadata (GC publishing, structural, administrative)
  • Content modeling (structured and unstructured)
  • Other information architecture (data architecture, enterprise information architecture)

Other assets:

  • Bilingualism (French and English) a significant asset
  • Experience in using Visio or similar tools for Web prototyping
  • Web development experience
  • Experience working in a consulting environment

Conditions:

Full time employment or subcontractor, salary negotiable.
Location of work is the National Capital Region.
Candidates should have current valid Government of Canada security clearance, or ability to obtain clearance.
