Mr. Batista is currently the Director of Service Innovation in the Canada Business National Secretariat of Industry Canada. CanadaBusiness.ca is one of the three portals found on the Government of Canada web site, www.canada.gc.ca, which provides comprehensive federal and provincial information and services to start, manage and expand a business.
As Director of Service Innovation, Dan is responsible for leading the evolution of the portal following the integration of the former Business Gateway and Canada Business Service Centre national web sites, and positioning it as the federal government's primary e-channel for the delivery of services to Canadian businesses. Dan's team is currently reviewing and enhancing the suite of online services, and is leading in the development of a new and exciting form of online service delivery, content syndication.
Prior to returning to Industry Canada in 2002, Dan was Director of the International Business Opportunities Centre, an interdepartmental office co-managed by Industry Canada and the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade under the Team Canada Inc, initiative. As Director, he led an interdepartmental team that was tasked with promoting awareness of global business opportunities, matching the needs of foreign buyers with Canadian exporters, and assisting Canadian businesses in successfully entering new export markets.
Dan has also held various positions in the areas of trade and investment promotion, as well as procurement and industrial policy.
Dan has a Master of Public Administration degree from Carleton University, Ottawa Canada, and a Master of Electronic Commerce degree from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada.
